50 sets of the gold, silver and bronze inauguration medals were made and issued inside a blue S.A. Mint case. An unknown number were made in silver and bronze and issued individually.
The Voortrekker Monument is located just south of Pretoria and commemorates the Voortrekkers who trekked northwards from the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854. The Monument was inaugurated on 16 December 1949 (the Day of the Vow) by the then-prime minister D.F. Malan.
