Edge: Upright reeded.

Obverse: Conjoined heads of four generations of the Royal family, all left. In order from right to left: Queen Victoria (veiled & diademed); Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VII); George, Duke of York (later George V) and Prince Edward (later Edward VIII). “COPYRIGHT” under Victoria’s bust. Radiant crown above; palm fond and laurel branch tied with a bow below. Legend above: “FOUR GENERATIONS OF THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY” and at the foot: “1900”.

Reverse: The coat of arms (c1900) of Bexhill-on-Sea. Legend above: PRETORIA DEMONSTRATION” and below between stars: “AT BEXHILL-ON-SEA. JUNE 5TH. 1900”.

Notes: Bexhill-on-Sea is a town in the county of East Sussex on the south coast of England.

The demonstration celebrated the occupation of Pretoria by British troops under Lord Roberts on 5th June 1900.

The design on the obverse of this medal was first used on the 1897 medal by Gruber to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. That medal was smaller and signed: “H. GRUBER 37 SNOWHILL LONDON” round the rim at the bottom.
