The Johannesburg General Hospital was opened in 1978. It is a 2,000-bed hospital, allied to the Wits Medical School, located in Parktown Ridge. Formerly reserved for white patients, it is now known as the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
