This medal is similar to Laidlaw 396a. It is conjectured that this medal was made later because the portrait on the first medal was not flattering.
Balthazar Johannes (John) Vorster (1915 - 1983) was a member of the National Party and served as the Prime Minister of South Africa from 1966 to 1978 and as the fourth State President from 1978 to 1979.
