This medal is similar to Laidlaw 0396b. It is conjectured that, because the portrait on the medal here is not flattering, the bust of Vorster was redesigned.
Balthazar Johannes (John) Vorster (1915 - 1983) was a member of the National Party and served as the Prime Minister of South Africa from 1966 to 1978 and as the fourth State President from 1978 to 1979.
