Comes in a blue case with the coat of arms of the University on the outside of the lid with two sprigs of laurel below and: "1866 (left) 1966 (right)". Lined on the inside with white silk: "SAM" and blue velvet.
The University was founded as Stellenbosch Gymnasium which was opened on 1 March 1866. It acquired university status on 2 April 1918 and was renamed Stellenbosch University.
