Edge: Plain. The rim is often thicker than the body of the medal. Varies between 2.7 mm and 4.0 mm.

Obverse: The British Royal coat of arms with motto: “DIEU ET MON DROIT” on an ornate ribbon below. Below that, from the Natal coat of arms, a pair of wildebeests galloping to the right.

Reverse: Within a laurel wreath tied at the bottom, space for engraving the recipients name and the item exhibited. Legend: "DURBAN & COAST SOCIETY OF AGRICULTURE & INDUSTRY" with stop at the foot. Gold medal stamped: "9CT".

Notes: The second example issued inside a dark blue case lined with blue silk and dark blue velvet. On the inside of the lid in gilt: "MADE SPECIALLY BY / HOLLANDER BROS. / 414. WEST ST. / DURBAN".

The recipient of the gold medal, Senator C.F. Clarkson, was the Minister of Posts and Telegraphs in the Union government during the 1930s.

The design of the obverse of this medal appears on the earlier Pietermaritzburg Agricultural Society medal (Laidlaw 0519) which is signed: "J MOORE". It is also similar to the reverse of the 1902 Natal Coronation Medal for King Edward VII (Laidlaw 0008a and 0008b).
