The second example issued inside a dark blue case lined with blue silk and dark blue velvet. On the inside of the lid in gilt: "MADE SPECIALLY BY / HOLLANDER BROS. / 414. WEST ST. / DURBAN". The recipient of the gold medal, Senator C.F. Clarkson, was the Minister of Posts and Telegraphs in the Union government during the 1930s. The design of the obverse of this medal appears on the earlier Pietermaritzburg Agricultural Society medal (Laidlaw 0519) which is signed: "J MOORE". It is also similar to the reverse of the 1902 Natal Coronation Medal for King Edward VII (Laidlaw 0008a and 0008b). |
