Obverse: Bareheaded bust of Kruger, left, similar to Z.A.R. coinage. Legend in large letters on left: “KRÜGER”.

Reverse: Across: “LES MAGASINS DE LA MÉNAGÈRE (in an arc) / DE DIJON (in an arc) / AUX BOERS (in an arc) / (line) / AUX HEROÏQUES / DEFENSEURS / DE LA / LIBERTÉ / AU TRANSVAAL / 1900 (in an arc)”. Maker’s mark round the rim: “CARTAUX (left) PARIS (right)”.

Notes: This medal was presented to the guests attending a banquet in Dijon on the evening of 23rd Novembers in honour of President Kruger who was en route to Paris from Marseilles. The event was sponsored by the Dijon department store, Les Magasins de la Ménagère de Dijon and was held in the Hôtel de la Cloche.

Hern shows an image of the menu card onto which the medal was attached.

Other similar medals by Cartaux, were on sale in Paris during the visit of President Kruger to that city later in November 1900.
