Jeppe High School was founded in 1880 by the Anglican Church under the name St Michael’s College. In 1903, after closure during the Boer War, it was opened as a government school and renamed Jeppetown High School after Sir Julius Jeppe, a major benefactor. The school split into two parts in 1919, one for boys and the other for girls, and renamed the Jeppe High School.
