Inner and outer ornate borders following the shape of the medal. Within inner border, on shield, across (some lines in arcs): "INTER-TOWN / SHOOTING / PRESENTED / .1892. / -FOR- / ANNUAL COMPETITION / MAYOR OF MARITZBURG / R. MASON. ESQ. / (line) / MAYOR OF DURBAN / B.W. GREENACRE, ESQ." Encircling inner shield, palm fronds tied at the bottom with a ribbon: "PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT". On cartouche on left of inner shield: "MARITZBURG" and on right: "V. DURBAN". Behind the inner shield crossed rifles. On right butt: "1892 DURBAN / 1141 POINTS" and on left butt: "1893 MARITZBURG 1156 POINTS".

Blank. Attached fitting for brooch and safety chain. At the bottom, makers mark: "W.J.D" and the Birmingham Sterling Silver hallmarks for 1904-5 (date letter e).
