Notes: Mafeking was a small garrison town in the northern part of the Cape Colony close to the border of Bechuanaland (now Botswana). It was besieged by Boer Forces over 217 days, from 13 October 1899 to 17 May 1900. The Siege was lifted flying column of some 2,000 British soldiers. The engraved initials: "I.C." probably stands for Imperial Cavalry.
