Round the perimeter African toothed design. In the bottom arm of the cross, a 5-pointed star and in the other three arms the initials: "C-T-S".

Based on the belief that drink was responsible for many of society’s ills, the temperance movement was a social and political campaign prominent in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Cape of Good Hope Temperance Society was founded in Cape Town in 1832.
