Edge: Plain.

Obverse: Off centre towards the left, the bust of Mandela in jacket and tie turned half right. On the right across: “A LONG / WALK TO / FREEDOM” with ribbons, above and below, showing an African design extending in an arc to the bust. Legend, starting from below: "NELSON ROLIHLAHLA MANDELA”.

Reverse: Between branches of laurel at the top and bottom: “HONOURED WITH / THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE / 1993”. To the lower left, close to the rim, the crossed pick and hammer mark of the Royal Norwegian Mint. On the rightmost laurel leaf, the purity mark: “925 S”.

Notes: The medal comes inside a yellow folder giving an account of Mandela’s life and records a limited mintage of 25,000.

Nelson Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Frederik de Klerk in 1993.
