The medal was commissioned Mond Nickel Company, a British company established in 1900 owning nickel mines in Canada and a refinery in Wales.
The British Empire Exhibition was held in the north London suburb of Wembley. It ran in two session from April to October 1924 and for a second six months in 1925. Most British Empire territories had displays. South had a Pavillion in the Cape Dutch style.
