Obverse: Bust of Queen Victoria, crowned (small), veiled and laureate, left. Signed below the truncation: “F. BOWCHER. F”. On the left across: “TO / COMMEM / -ORATE / THE 60TH YEAR” and on the right: “OF HER / MAJESTY’S / REIGN”. Legend outside semicircular lines above: “VICTORIA” and below: “QUEEN . AND . EMPRESS”.

Reverse: Coat of arms of Cape Colony with ribbon behind: "1837 (left) 1897 (right). Signed: "SPINK LONDON" below. In an arc above: "GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN" and below: "CAPE COLONY". Outside ornamental semicircular lines above and below, half laurel wreaths above and below with the crowned imperial monogram: "VRI" on left and right and the royal coat of arms on a shield above.
